Exploring the Theme of Lament During This Lenten Season

February 1, 2018

There is much happening in our world that gives us cause for lament, and this can lead us to feel isolated and disempowered. By coming together in our lament we can tap into our collective strength and support each other in our journey toward hope.

That is why we're bringing you a program of weekly reflections during this Lenten season on the theme of lament. The reflections will take place on Tuesday evenings at 6:30pm to 8:00pm from 20 February to 20 March.  Light refreshments will be served from 6:00pm.

To guide us on this journey, we are fortunate to have four presenters from four spiritual traditions. The program will conclude with a prayer ritual prepared by all of our participants.

Meet our presenters

Louise Campbell

Louise has a deep commitment to social justice and has been a strong influence in the life and work of her renowned artist brother, Richard, encouraging him to tell the story of Aboriginal people in his paintings. She is Aboriginal Education Advisor in the Office of Catholic Education in the Maitland Diocese.

Donna Jacobs Sife

Donna is a writer, award-winning storyteller and peace-worker. She is a lecturer in Sacred Story in the Universities of Sydney and New South Wales. Donna will speak to our theme drawing from the richness of Jewish spirituality.

Alex Nelson

Alex finds himself in lament much of the time. He listens gladly to those who live in hope, as well as those whose suffering is unbearable. Poetry, songs and storytelling that draw on learning from life, wholehearted spirituality and wise psychology bring him some comfort, awareness and silent wonder.

Aisha Meguid

Aisha has been delivering guest lectures and teaching in Islam and personal development with ISRA (Islamic Sciences & Research Academy Australia), for over 10 years. She is currently completing a Masters in Islamic Studies at Charles Sturt University.
